A pianist, composer, arranger and jazz musucian. Teaches music. Founder and leader of the Che Guevara Jazz project.
Born on 29th June 1975 in Havana, Cuba. Being from a famous musical family, he has been surrounded by music since childhood. The family patriarch, Pedro's maternal grandfather Orestes López is a great Cuban composer, the creator of the mambo style and the founder of the cha cha cha; he could play virtually any musical instrument. Pedro Alexander chose the piano; this is what he studied at the Guillermo Tomás music school and then at the Amadeo Roldán music school. In 1994, he graduated as pianist and piano teacher.
He graduated from the Cuban Conservatory (ISA), where he took a course in composition.
His professional experience has been quite diverse: he played the piano, the keyboard and arranged the music for well-known Cuban bands: Diakara, Habana Ensemble and PG (Poder de la Generación). Over a number of years he played with these groups in Havana and on international tours. He took part in international jazz festivals, both solo and in groups. Pedro has authored classical, Cuban dance and jazz music. Between 1994 and 2001, he taught the piano at the Guillermo Tomás music school. Pedro has been living in Moscow since 2002.
Currently, he still engages in various kinds of music activities: teaches the piano and jazz improvisation, writes and arranges music, records with various musical projects as a session musician, plays the keyboards and sings the back-vocal with his brother Abelardo Alfonso López in the Che Guevara Band, plays the small percussion and sings in the Hermanos along with his brother.
In 2005, he created his own trio - Che Guevara Jazz, which mostly plays Latin jazz composed by the members. The group has taken part in international jazz festivals.
